Need an urgent appointment to resolve a specific problem or tooth pain instead of a dental check-up?
Booking an appointment with our private dentists in Dorset will ascertain whether we can save your tooth or must remove it.
For our dentists, preserving the natural tooth and retaining it for as long as possible is always our main goal. However, in situations where the decay is too severe or even in cases of overcrowding, a tooth extraction might be unavoidable.
If this is the case, don’t worry—especially if you’re a nervous patient. Tooth extractions might sound scary, but they’re simple, fast procedures that take under an hour and are completed under local anaesthetic (or sedation for phobic patients).
You’ll also be in the best hands if you don’t want to be left with a gap caused by a missing tooth. Our principal dentist, Dr Philip McCauley, is a leading implant dentist in the UK who placed more implants than any other dentist in 2023.
We offer advanced treatment solutions like dental implants for tooth loss – and integrated versions of traditional prosthetics like dental bridges and dentures, which are supported by dental implants instead for better stability in cases of multiple tooth loss.
At our clinic on Longfleet Road in Poole, our private dentists charge from £250 for a tooth extraction.
However, the price will depend, of course, on how many teeth you need removing and the complexity of the removal. For example, wisdom tooth extractions will cost more, as they’re more complex.
Patients can also elect to have treatment with a specialist oral surgeon, which will also factor in to higher costs. Sedation is also an option extra if you’re a particularly nervous patient, typically starting from £600 per hour. Patients choosing to replace their pulled teeth with us instantly with either an implant, bridge or denture, can expect costs from £800 to £3,500. See our fees.
Typical signs include:
Answering you honestly, you won’t feel the sensation of pain during the tooth extraction. The entire site will be numb, and patients will only feel pressure in the area where we’re removing the tooth. Following the extraction, once the anaesthesia wears off, you’ll feel slightly uncomfortable, but not sore.
After your initial appointment with us, where the dentist has examined your tooth and found it cannot be saved, we’ll invite you back in for your extraction appointment, where we’ll remove your tooth in around an hour under local anaesthetic.
Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, we’ll widen your tooth socket, loosen the tooth and remove it, then we’ll stitch up your gums and allow it to heal.
After the anaesthesia wears off, you will feel a little uncomfortable, but it won’t be unbearable and we’d advise hot drinks and blankets for the rest of the day.
There are three main ways you can replace a missing tooth, either with dentures, dental bridges or dental implants. Dental implants are certainly the superior option but are also the most expensive. Dentures are the cheapest, but not the most preferred. You can talk to us more about your options and costs, and we’ll help break down the treatments and highlight what will work best and what won’t be for your case.
Just tell us a little about your main concerns and we will find the right treatment to suit your needs
